The Accidental Pro
A technical native intelligence and a gift for entertaining began my career in The Biz. I have always possessed a natural affinity for recording gear, beginning as a child when I would physically manipulate reel-to-reel tape over the playback heads on the machines. Experimentation ho!

I studied audio engineering through books and experimented on borrowed old equipment. During these playful times, I studied mic techniques and numerous recording techniques. Whilst working as an engineer at KPFK-FM in Los Angeles, CA, I was introduced to Richard Einfeld’s studio to gather some sound effects. Not long thereafter, I began working for Einfeld. It was here that I taught myself editing and learned the fine points of recording devices like the venerable Nagra III and IV-S. I was soon conscripted by friends to assist in a film, Familiar Faces. A friend from that crew, Bret Wolcott, asked me to shoot music videos with a company called High Five Productions. More and more of these word-of-mouth productions came my way and I developed something of a reputation for quality sound recording and also an entertaining presence on the set.

Inevitably, someone thought I should be in front of the lens. While working on Sloane in The Philippines, I was tapped to play Richard Thursby, not because of my great acting skill, but because I was the only tall white guy within shouting distance of the camera. This did lead to other bit roles and, frankly, was a lot of fun.

I worked with a raft of fine professional actors and crew members and my short stint in The Biz, although it paid shit, was nonetheless one of the richest experiences in my life.http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0088137/shapeimage_2_link_0
